Taking a techtimeout

The benefits technology brings to our everyday lives are many – both at home and in the workplace, but it is important to be mindful of the negative impact excessive use of technology can have on our health and wellbeing. Our team, along with EPX Technical Services, have signed up to take part in this week’s techtimeout Tuesday.

We have taken part in this initiative for a number of years now and feel it is important to continue as it grows in popularity and receives support from mental health charities and organisations across the UK and beyond

What is techtimeout

Hundreds of companies pledge to take part in non-technology activities to mark the importance of giving tech a break – this year it is November 28th.

It comes after Black Friday and Cyber Monday – two very tech-heavy days for all – and companies are encouraged to choose an offline activity, talk about the facts and figures and raise awareness.

So what are the facts and figures…..

The facts and figures

  • 38 million adults – that’s 76% of the adult population – access the internet each day in the UK
  • The average UK adult spends more than six hours on a screen each day – 90 days every year.
  • We pick up our mobile phones 58 times a day on average
  • It takes 23 minutes to focus on a task after a technology distraction

Doing your part

There is growing evidence that overuse of technology can impact relationships, wellbeing and productivity, which can lead to problems with sleeping, stress, anxiety and depression.

We think it is important to encourage some time away from tech to ensure good mental health and wellbeing, so we will all be taking time out to mark techtimeout Tuesday. And why we would encourage you to make a pledge too!
